KEYWORTH ANNUAL HORTICULTURAL, ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW

Judges very impressed with the standard of entries
The quality of the entries into this year’s show prompted several of the qualified and independent judges to pass comment and congratulations to the entrants. All entries are anonymous to the judges and until the results are compiled when judging is finished. Congratulations to the Fowkes family who won the trophy for the family with the most points, to Barry Turvey who won the trophy for the entrant with most points and to Austin Shepherd who won the Hartley Trophy for the young person with the most points.
The marquee was once more full of colour, pleasant aroma from the cookery classes and scents from the flowers and the flower arrangements. Nearly 660 exhibits were submitted by 163 entrants in the 90 classes as well as many more pictures with a Moon theme from the local infants and junior schools. The theme for the schools and many of the other classes was prompted by sponsorship by the Society for Popular Astronomy, the Year of Astronomy and the anniversary of man landing on the moon. Other sponsorship for the children’s and other prizes came from the Keyworth Arts Association with eight other local businesses supporting us by donating prizes for selected classes.
The trophies this year were presented by Sam Boote who as well as being known in the local political arena is an astronomer himself and a member of the SPA. Sam was delighted to meet and congratulate the talented winners of trophies and prizes; many of you may have seen the trophies on display in Village Hair for a couple of weeks leading up to the show.
The horticultural show is sponsored by the Keyworth and District Gardening Association who provide much of the resource to organise and run the event and this year there was again an impressive display stand to publicise their events and advantages of membership.
Many thanks and much appreciation to the SPA, Keyworth Arts and other local businesses who donated prizes, to the judges, to the helpers, to Sam Boote for presenting the trophies, to the committee who give of their time throughout the year and tirelessly on the day, to all those who visited the Marquee on 11th July and particular thanks to all the entrants who make such a valuable contribution to the success of this key attraction to Keyworth’s principal annual event and without whom the show would not exist.
